Mark Larson compares KIPP’s bright new downtown campus, the charter school network’s first ground-up build in San Antonio, to a 10-year-old boy he recruited in 2002 to KIPP’s first school here.
That boy, Jesús Alemán, didn’t speak English when he came to KIPP Aspire Academy, then located in a run-down former church. Now starting medical school at the University of North Texas, he is KIPP San Antonio’s first graduate on the path to becoming a doctor. And KIPP Aspire is moving into the new building going up on 18 acres between San Pedro Creek and the South Flores corridor, land that had been a rail switching yard before lying fallow for decades.View Full Article
