KIPP University Prep High School Achieves International Baccalaureate World School Status
KIPP University Prep High School will be the first high school in San Antonio to offer an open access International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme
KIPP University Prep High School, ranked in the top 10% of high schools in Texas by U.S. News & World Report, has become the newest member of an ever growing global community of schools offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) in 147 different countries.
All KIPP University Prep students will be able to take part in the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme, making KIPP University Prep the first high school in San Antonio to provide open access IB for all students and the first KIPP IB high school in the country. KIPP San Antonio will implement the IB program beginning in the 2016-17 school year.
“We are proud that KIPP University Prep will be able to provide this exceptional college-preparatory program to the students of San Antonio. For more than 10 years, KIPP San Antonio has been committed to preparing students from underserved communities for success in college and in life. The IB program builds upon this strong tradition of college preparation for all students,” said Mark Larson, Founder and CEO of KIPP San Antonio Public Schools.
IB is the premier college-prep program in the world. IB takes a holistic portfolio approach, allowing students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge through in-class projects and papers, as well as end of course assessments. IB also provides students with a range of academic choices so that students can tailor their classes and activities to suit their interests and future career aspirations.
IB focuses on each student as a whole person. It not only prepares students for academic success in college, it also emphasizes the importance of community service and focuses on skills such as thinking critically, writing rigorously, and managing time effectively.
“We believe that every child can excel and deserves access to exceptional curriculum and instruction,” said Abigail Morton-Garland, Co-School Leader of KIPP University Prep High School. “Providing an IB education to all students, from pre-IB classes in ninth grade to senior level exams, ensures that students will be prepared for their journey to and through college”
